The Ban Is Already in Force
Since 1 June 2025, businesses in the UK have not been permitted to sell or supply single-use vapes. The rules apply to sales both in shops and online.
The change means that vape products legally supplied to customers must meet the requirements for reusable products rather than being designed to be used once and discarded.
What Counts as a Reusable Vape?
Under the UK rules, a reusable vape must be both rechargeable and refillable. It must have a battery that can be recharged and a container that can be refilled, such as by replacing a prefilled pod or refilling a permitted container.
A product that cannot meet the applicable reusable criteria cannot simply be marketed as reusable because it has a charging port.
What Customers May Notice
The product ranges available online and in stores have changed since the ban. Customers may now see reusable pod systems and compatible replacement pods occupying the space previously associated with single-use products.
Product names and appearances can still vary significantly, so it is important to check the exact product description rather than relying on how familiar a device looks.
Check Compatibility Before Ordering
Reusable systems make compatibility particularly important. Replacement pods are not automatically interchangeable between devices, even when products come from the same manufacturer.
